Talking Compass
A fully accessible talking compass designed for visually impaired users, outdoor adventurers, and anyone who needs hands-free directional guidance.
Features:
- Voice-Guided Direction — Speaks your current compass heading aloud at customisable intervals, so you always know which way you're facing without looking at the screen.
- Heading Lock — Tap to lock your current direction. Receive instant haptic and voice alerts if you deviate more than 10 degrees off course, with confirmation when you're back on track.
- North Finder Mode — Guided feedback that leads you to North. Haptic intensity increases as you get closer, with voice cues like "Getting closer", "Almost there", and "North" when aligned.
- Directional Haptics — Unique vibration patterns for each cardinal direction (North, East, South, West) so you can identify your heading by touch alone.
- Haptics Only Mode — Disable all speech and rely entirely on vibration patterns for silent, discreet navigation.
- Adaptive Speech — Automatically speaks more frequently when you're turning and less when you're stationary, reducing unnecessary chatter.
- Customisable Speech Settings — Choose between timed interval or direction-change speech modes. Adjust frequency, enable cardinal-only announcements, and override silent mode.
- High Contrast Display — Bold yellow bezel with red North marker on a black background. Large directional arrow and oversized heading letter for maximum visibility in bright sunlight.
- Large Tap Targets — Oversized icon buttons designed for easy use with gloves, in motion, or with display zoom and large text enabled.
- Full VoiceOver Support — Every button, status indicator, and heading reading is fully labelled for screen reader users.
